Acts 16:13-22
God's Power for God's Purpose

When Apostle Paul went to the city of Philippi he encountered people in need of the Gospel. A slave girl followed him and the disciples with him shouting, "The men are servants of the most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation."

She continued doing this for many days. Paul became irritated, for the girl was possessed of a divination spirit, and he ordered the spirit out of her in the name of Jesus Christ. The girl's "supernatural abilities" had made her owners quite rich, and without the spirits working through her, the businessmen stood to lose a lot of money.

However, this was not what upset them. When the men took the disciples before the magistrates to complain, their argument was based on the effect the disciples were having on the culture. The Gospel is so transformative in the lives of people that it was changing their very way of living.

Likewise, we must not underestimate the power of God to change an entire city, even in a day and age when we are told in America not to push our religion on our children.

God has the power to change a city. We must stand strong in him and be obedient in sharing the Gospel so that others may hear and believe.
